Reigniting Hope and Opportunity: Relaunching Our Programs at Ikerico Basic School, Kibi

Date: February 24th, 2025

This past weekend, the Global World Citizens team had the incredible opportunity to visit Ikerico Basic School in Kibi (Eastern Region) once again. Our journey began on Friday, where we made our way to meet the teachers and staff. Although we had initially hoped to meet with the students at that time, we weren’t able to connect with them as planned. Instead, we took the time to meet with the teachers and staff to update them on the exciting developments for the year ahead and ensure they were aware that we would be continuing our ICT, music, arts, film, and dance programs that we started last year.

Reaffirming Our Commitment
Our visit was about reinforcing our commitment to the students and the community. Last year, we introduced a multifaceted program aimed at enriching the students’ learning experiences and providing them with opportunities to grow creatively and academically. The ICT, music, arts, film, and dance initiatives were designed not only to help students develop technical skills but also to foster self-expression, teamwork, and creativity.

We made sure to meet with the teachers and staff to emphasize how crucial these programs are for the children’s future. We wanted to ensure everyone—especially the educators and staff—knew that we were here to stay and to continue working together for the benefit of the students.

Looking Ahead: What’s Next for the Children of Kibi?

On Monday, our team returned early to Ikerico Basic School in Kibi with a renewed sense of purpose. We met with the children and students during the school assembly to officially relaunch the next phase of our ICT, music, arts, film, and dance programs. We’re excited to get started and to witness the growth and transformation of the children as they engage in these programs. The children have already shown tremendous enthusiasm for the opportunities they’re receiving, and we can’t wait to continue nurturing their skills and passions.

Our programs will provide them with the tools to excel in areas like technology, creative arts, and communication. More importantly, these programs are about empowering children to discover and pursue their passions, which we believe will have a lasting impact on their lives.

Introducing the Global World Citizens Investment Fund

At the Monday meeting with the teachers and staff, Global World Citizens NGO decided to take an exciting step forward by introducing the Global World Citizens Investment Fund. This fund will serve as a channel through which we, as Global World Citizens, can donate and deposit funds. These funds will be used to support some of the school’s key projects and programs, particularly in building and completing the ICT lab for the school.

We believe this initiative will help ensure that Ikerico Basic School has the necessary resources to continue advancing the education and creativity of its students, enabling them to succeed in an increasingly digital world.

The Role of Teachers, Parents, and the Community
As we continue to roll out these programs, it is essential that the community—teachers, staff, and parents—remain actively involved. During our trip, we were able to speak with the teachers and staff, ensuring they understood the importance of their role in the program’s success. But more importantly, we made it clear to them that we are here to support them and work alongside them to help the children thrive.

This Thursday, we will meet with the children again to fully restart the program. By working together as a community, we can achieve even more and create a solid foundation for these children’s future success.

Reflecting on Our Journey
Looking back on our visit this weekend, we feel deeply proud of the progress we’ve made and the connections we’ve strengthened. It’s incredibly inspiring to see how much the children have grown since we first started working with them. We know that the future holds even greater potential for them, and we are honored to continue being a part of their journey.

Our trip to Kibi (Eastern Region) was a powerful reminder of the impact we can make when we come together. The work we are doing is far from over, and we are excited to continue supporting the children in their educational and creative pursuits. With the ongoing collaboration of the teachers, parents, and community, we are confident that these programs will continue to thrive and empower future generations.

Stay tuned for more updates as we move forward with the next phase of our programs in Kibi. Together, we are building a brighter, more creative future for the children of Kibi!
